microResidency#39 Simona Da Pozzo
“Surplus Value”. Within The METARESIDENCY Project at The Blank Residency, Bergamo, Italia. Thursday 5th September 2013, 6 to 8pm (GMT+1)
The microResidency Surplus Value by italian artist Simona Da Pozzo takes part of The METARESIDENCY Project at The Blank Residency, Bergamo, Italia, where Miguel Guzmán Pastor has been invited in residency from 1st to 11th September 2013.
Proposal sent by the artist:
Two euros fractionated, hidden, searched, mapped, collected and cataloged for a hypothetical multiplication of value. With this proposal, I’ll play an alchemical intervention: the steel and the copper of coins will be “transformed in gold” by a recreational protocol. With “Surplus Value” I tempt the recreational user so as to make visible how to create attention in an action of value retribution may modify the devices for relation. The intervention may rather stay at its state of power or may be displaced by its users.
While I’ll be hiding 200 coins of 0,01 euros in the house, the visitors will be waiting in the “Studio d’Artista 2”. Here, there will be a computer connected via Skype to my Smartphone following my movements in the house. Visitors can’t really see what I’m doing but they can guess some clues by the sounds. In a second moment, visitors will be invited to research the coins with dissimulated attitude. Those who will collect and map the coins will receive a certificate of authenticity of “Surplus Value”. The remaining coins will constitute the trace of the process.
The exact Surplus Value will calculated on the basis of the quotes of the day. Each founded 0,01 euro coin (2,3 gr of steel 94,35%, and copper 5,65%, value = 5 euros for 1 kg) will have a new value of 69 euros (2,30 gr of gold, 30.000 euros per kg). So the document will certify a “Surplus Value” of 68,99 euros for each coin.
