microResidency#75 Miguel Ángel Moreno
“Passage with Crossing gate”. Miguel Ángel Moreno Carretero. Saturday 9th May 2015. 12pm to 2pm.
Part of the edition “microResidencies or Passages” curated by Espacio Islandia at the exhibition “Body and Power” organised by German Embassy in Spain at Pasaje Fuencarral 77, Madrid.
Text sent by the artist:
My proposal aims to research on the main reason why this sort of constructions are executed: the architectonic passages are both spaces to join two different areas and walking spaces. This specific passage use is clearly commercial being partially abandoned therefore allowing us to give a second meaning to it. The goal is to underline the space as a crossing and pedestrian area through a pair of crossing gates that points its quality of privacy and security.
The main goal is to set both barriers at both main entrances of the passage. The artwork may have a different position in a central site or any available spaces for this edition of the microResidency project.
Every barrier has a counterweight in order to ease its lift and in this case I will use books about religion and politics as a balance. The weight of those balances is directly connected with a possible reading of the book’s contents in reference to the conflicts that isolate population from diverse cultures and territories. As the general management of this exhibition is developed by an Embassy my proposal also depicts migration issues within first and third world countries.
